Well, it’s that time of the year again when my kids like to challenge me with their crazy Halloween Costume ideas. I started making my kids costumes about three years ago when my daughter became obsessed with turtles. First she loved the color green which, I believe lead her to love turtles (a green animal). So she wanted to be a turtle for Halloween. After searching around I couldn’t find a turtle costume that she really loved. This was even before the TMNT made their comeback, which now she’s a big fan. I told her that I would make her costume for her and she could help design it.
I choose fleece because it was warm for our MN climate and I didn’t need to finish the edges. So after I took all her ideas and put them together, this is what we created.
Since then the turtle shell has shown up and several different kids that just can’t help but put the puffy shell on. I’ll post some of those pictures when I can find them.
This same year my son decided to be a Tron character. We bought the Tron costume, but I added clear tubing around all the areas that would normally light up in the movie. Then we added glow sticks to each spot. It looked super cool. It’s hard to see in the photos, but in the third photo you can kinda see the blue on his arm.
The next Year my daughter wanted to be Cynder from the video game Skylanders. Here is Cynder…
Really, she wanted to be a purple dragon. Well, this is what I came up with and she loved it. Her best friend love it too, so I had to make another one for her. They even had the spiked cuffs. They were so cute trick or treating together.
Last year was a whole other story with costumes. I made both my kids costumes and two nephews and a niece. My son was a creeper from Minecraft. This one was time consuming. A lot of foam and tiny squares.
My daughter was the cat from Nyan Cat Video game. If you aren’t famillar with that, It’s a giant pop tart cat that shoots rainbow from it’s butt as it leaps through the air. Sorry the rest of my pictures aren’t very good. I’ll try to find my better ones to post later.
One nephew was an Indian
The other nephew was a Gladiator
My niece was Stitch and I literally made this in a couple hours. My sister-n-law showed up with sweatpants and sweatshirt and said, we can’t find a cute Stitch costume the night of her costume party.
Well, I can’t wait to see what ideas come my way this year. Something about “Princess Uni-Kitty” We’ll see!
